Welcome To The Hellmouth

Welcome to Emily The Vampire Slayer, my name is Emily (surprised?) & this is my personal webspace that is free for me to say as I like in. You don't agree with my ramblings? That's fine, leave. I'm not out to offend or upset anyone but, like most, I'm very opiniated... that can often get in the way of my desire to be friends with everyone I meet because I won't drop my beliefs for anyone. Why should I? But feel free to take a look around and comment my blogs. Any questions, issues or complaints can be addressed here.

What I Look For
Good actors and strong characters that the audience care about. Well-written storylines and good/clever jokes, witty banter and clear references. Though not necessary, I like a varied genre that is not tied down to one like simply Crime or Sci-fi. Mixture of short and long-running storylines. Something different. Dark & sexy is personally one of my favourite themes ever.

My Favourites: TV

Buffy The Vampire Slayer - As if you didn't know this would come first. Buffy is my favourite show ever and I would be willing to bet my life that it always will be. Its spin-off Angel is my second favourite show, so naturally, I love it. But even that is a far cry from what I found in Buffy. I think somehow Buffy provided a metaphor for my life, what I'd been searching for to get me through day by day. It was something to believe in. I recall Buffy's line: "I just want to feel". I sort-of believe that I was like that before I discovered Buffy, and Spike in particular. I was in a time of my life where I had no real aim or goal, I felt each day was the same and I didn't have much passion for anything. Then I watched Buffy and suddenly all these feelings came to life. It made me laugh, cry, wonder, excited, anticipated and sometimes even Horny. When I found Buffy, sad as it sounds, I found myself. My family may contradict this by saying I lost myself (or my mind at least) after watching Buffy because of a certain event later that year. I can't exlain and they'll never understand. Maybe Buffy was the passion that drove me to such a negative extreme, but they don't realise and never will that for me, it was the most gutsy thing I've ever done. For once in my life: I truly felt alive.

Angel - Angel is naturally my second favourite show because, after Buffy, it's the next best thing. I loved the characters in Angel too, though Angel himself is one of my lesser favourite characters in the Whedonverse. I really enjoyed the many flashbacks that took place in Angel, it pleased me to keep finding out more about the characters' pasts. Obviously, I was over the moon when Spike joined, because he is undoubtedly my favourite character and I really enjoyed the finale scene, I thought it was brilliant - where it left you wondering if and who survived. Angel's best storylines, in my opinion, were the one involving Darla, from bringing her back right up to her pregnancy; the storyline where Wesley is given a false prophecy and kidnaps Connor; and the growing relationship between Angel and Cordelia which I'm upset that it never worked out for.

Supernatural - I first got interested in Supernatural because I saw really amusing icons on people's LJ profiles and I thought Jensen Ackles was cuteness on legs. I've finally caught up with all episodes I missed and I think the show is fantastic. Like Buffy & Angel, it has that appropriate mix of 'monster-of-the-week' that takes the episode to solve, but also long-running storylines that pan the season and keep you interested on a long-term basis, i.e. Finding John Winchester & Dean's upcoming hell-threat. I find Dean adorable, his funny one-liners always make me giggle ("I'm Batman"). I've actually subscribed to the Supernatural magazine and I can't wait for Season four.

Gossip Girl - If I hadn't have read the books I probably never would have watched Gossip Girl. Which is a shame because I would have missed out on a really good show. It's very sexy but in a teen, not-too-over-the-top way and the gossip is highly scandalous, you feel like you're in on it. I also love the different characters of Serena and Blair, how their personalities are miles apart but they've managed to stay friends so long; Blair is the most lovable BITCH I've ever come across, she's such a cow but you just can't help loving her - she does it so well. I've enjoyed the appearance of Michelle Trachtenberg in a few episodes as well, now she was a BITCHA! (Ha, lol, you don't get it do you?).

Sex And The City - I used to like shows such as Footballers' Wives and Desperate Housewives, and then I grew up and thought: nah, that genre really isn't for me... until Sex And The City came along. Don't discard it straight away without a thought, this is a REALLY good show. It's so funny it has given me stitches at times, the characters are amazing and hilarious in themselves. I think my favourite is Samantha, she's a bit of a slut but that's what's so great about her, she comes out with some real crap and it isn't half funny. I really reccommend you give this show a chance.

The Tudors - This is a really great TV show. It is basically a chunk of history in the British monarchy that has interested students and historians for centuries and it's now being retold in full-coloured detail. Here's a photo. Johnathan Rhys Meyers is gorgeous and sexy, he plays the role of the young Henry VIII so well. This show has instantly become one of my favourites, it's full of cruelty, passion, betrayal and heartache. Everything you could ever want from a TV programme.

My Favourites: Movies

Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, Ghost, Endless Love, Flashdance, Some Like It Hot, Indecent Proposal, Fatal Attraction, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Silence Of The Lambs, Steel Magnolias, The Matrix, Arthur, Basic Instinct, Lady And The Tramp, Beauty And The Beast, Mrs Doubtfire, Monster-In-Law, Mamma Mia!, Phantom Of The Opera.
