Welcome To The Hellmouth

Welcome to Emily The Vampire Slayer, my name is Emily (surprised?) & this is my personal webspace that is free for me to say as I like in. You don't agree with my ramblings? That's fine, leave. I'm not out to offend or upset anyone but, like most, I'm very opiniated... that can often get in the way of my desire to be friends with everyone I meet because I won't drop my beliefs for anyone. Why should I? But feel free to take a look around and comment my blogs. Any questions, issues or complaints can be addressed here.

The Importance Of Being British

16.11.08
Okay, so the title of my latest blog is taken from 1) My dear love for my home country and 2) Oasis song - 'The Importance Of Being Idle'. Since my last blog an awful lot has happened to me and my website. Well, to the outside world it probably doesn't look like much at all has happened to me but I have recently undergone a weird change in mental state - for the better or worse, only time will tell. More about that later.
Firstly, the site has a new cliques page under the fan section as I have recently joined quite a few, I only really discovered them a few weeks back! I have also updated the 'Owner' section, put in loads of new information and finally (thank God) wrote my personal statement. I wrote the statement at the weekend when I was in a particularly good mood for writing and should probably have focused on my Othello essay or my entry into the horror stories writing competition. Anyhow, I didn't. I spent a God awful lot of my weekend at the library with Amanda hunting down books on political history in Britain and the USA - oh yeah, that's the latest, I'm going to be Prime Minister!! I even wrote a very keen paragraph about it in my personal statement. Honestly, it's so weird, this is what I mean by my mental state, in the past, say, six months it's been whizzing all over the place. Before I got my GCSE results, I wanted to go to Oxford or Cambridge and do Law and it was all planned out and set right up until I got a knockback with the less-than-I-expected results. So then I had no idea, what should I do? I wanted money and success, and a smalltown girl like me only really achieves that through the 'biggies'. That's when the whole Glamour model idea attracted me, and I must admit, there's no way that one has been ruled out. I like the idea and you don't have to have a degree from Oxford to make it (indeed, no degree at all is required). But now I've been researching and my academic goals seem to be firing back at me. Not all MPs have been to Oxford or Cambridge, Gordon Brown actually went to Edinburgh (18th on the league tables) and I know I could get into somewhere like Exeter, which is number 13. I became a little obsessed this week, researching MPs and Universities and ordering Prospectuses.
Then something coincidentally weird happened. I was bullied into volunteering to guide around the year 11 students who were coming up to look at our sixth form college. This girl who I was showing round asked to check out Chemistry so we went to the Science block and I waited on the sidelines while her and her parents gossiped away to Mr Lee about the subject. That's when this guy I'd never seen before (apparently a new teacher in Science) started talking to me about how I liked the college and what I wanted to do next. Turns out he's been all over the world and has a PHD from Newcastle University; I told him about taking a liking to politics and asked if I was at a disadvantage for not taking it at A level, he said he couldn't imagine it being a problem and he was telling me about the best Universities; obviously Oxford and Cambridge came up but he also mentioned Durham and Warwick, which I've ordered Prospectuses from. Talking with him was very informative.
Later on in the evening, me and Amy took another girl up to History and told her that Mr Lewis was the best teacher; her Dad told Mr Lewis what we said and he was thrilled: "Thanks girls, I'm really chuffed; here, have as much chocolate as you want for that" and he gave us a big tin of Heroes. So we're officialy in his good books. Me and Amy had a confessions moment where we both admitted to finding Mr Lewis and the other History teacher, Mr Daly, HOT. The next day, Mr Daly gave us back some homework we did and said it was really good; I just looked at Amy and grinned like an idiot.
Last thing, actually second-to-last thing, I have compiled a list of my favourite songs of all time, if you have never heard them, take my word for it: CHECK THEM OUT:

Romeo and Juliet (Dire Straits)
Hallelujah (Rufus Wainwright)
Both Sides Now (Joni Mitchell)
Piano Man (Billy Joel)
Vincent (Don Mclean)
Sorry Doesn't Always Make It Right (Diana Ross)
Black Velvet (Alannah Myles)
Play That Funky Music (Wild Cherry)
Common People (Pulp)
Nobody Does It Better (Carly Simon)
Diamond Smiles (Boomtown Rats)
Tainted Love (Soft Cell)
Poison (Alice Cooper)

Okay, okay, so that was the second-to-last thing. Now for the last thing I've decided to write what my famous last words will be, so I can end on that note, kinda appropriate - don't ya think? I really hope they're: "Oh James, my love, how will you go on without me?" But I doubt it, so here goes: "I'm pretty sure ladies and gentlemen that in the history of the world there are many people who have done much better than I, but unlike myself, most of them will never be able to say they're a right-handed Sagittarius called Emily May Mitchell with a curious love for semi-colons and the smell of petrol; for that, ladies and gentlemen is something to be really proud of in the grand scheme of things."
